Pattern formation in mixed bacterial communities

While investigating bacteria stealing genes from each other, we observed that they also make pretty patterns. We developed models and simulations to understand the interactions, helping us to understand how bacteria interact with each other in more realistic situations than the typical single-species lab cultures.
